During my first few months at Ubisoft Massive I had the opportunity to work on the graphics and performance of Star Wars Outlaws. This work was shipped alongside the release of Outlaws’s second DLC: ‘A Pirate’s Fortune’.

What did I do?

  • I was responsible for investigating and resolving performance issues for the new or main game content. Ensuring that we could hit target FPS on all platforms
  • Made improvements to HDR, Cloud and the fog rendering in the game
  • Implemented various improvements in the game relating to Accessibility, UI/UX and Sustainability.
  • Worked on various smaller issues throughout the whole game to improve the overall stability and user experience.

Contributions

Throughout my stay on this project I was able to tackle various Graphics focused tasks with the intent to improve the overall user experience. This work started out by fixing and optimizing some some of our rendering techniques relating to HDR, Cloud and Fog rendering.

Later in the project my work shifted towards ensuring that our game would run at target frame-rates for each of our supported platforms. This was for both the remaining/reported issues for the main game but also the new content in A Pirate’s Fortune.

Lastly I had the opportunity to work on some additional Quality of Life improvements relating UI/UX, Accessibility and Sustainability.
